Press Release

Saturday March 17, 2007

Contemporary artist Doug McFarland will give a non-technical talk and digital presentation “The Magic of Monochrome” sponsored by Camera Rochester on Monday April 16th starting at 7 PM at the Atonement Lutheran Church, 1900 Westfall Rd., Rochester, NY. Admission is free.

Doug will discuss and show examples of his work over the last 30 years in monochrome artwork starting at age 14 when he worked in traditional pen and ink, pencil and charcoal, and ending with his current contemporary all digital process including his own specialized sienna palette and software tools he developed himself. He will also touch on early digital artwork dating back to the mid 80’s as a computer graphics developer, as well as 20 years in traditional small, medium and large format wet process.

Of particular interest to many photographers and contemporary artists will be his recount of the revelation in 2002 that both traditional art and traditional photography, could be fused with new digital processes to create contemporary new-media artwork that bridges both art and photography. He will show how early traditional work, as well as his early digital work has influenced and driven his contemporary style.

Doug will also present an overview of his business, Final Impressions, and how the digital process has enhanced and helps him maintain a thriving and growing art business.
