final impressions blog - July 2006

July 19, 2006

My friend Joanne was at our studio when I was out of town. She saw two of my river abstracts which is in my private portfolio and not shown in public. She recently wrote and asked to see more. So Joanne, just for you here they are.

These four pieces were composed using the full moon reflecting on the Genesee River with a long exposure. It was quite serendipitous. I was shooting the landscape river at midnight and noticed the wobbling, simetimes disconnected, reflections off the river. I shot these with a tripod and didn't discover the shapes until I reviewed the images more carefully. Perhaps others will see something different.

Each print is framed to 16x16.

Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts in State College Pa. Hot hot hot! at 93+ degrees. It was a good show for us, but could have been better as a 4 day show. So, we plan to apply next year.

We also made friends with several other great artists, like Maggie, owner of Vermont Botanical. Her work is really stunning.

We were pleased to have been awarded 2nd place in the photography category at the Corn Hill Arts Festival last week. It was an honor in light of the great photographers that exhibit at the show.

We were also glad to see most (all but 1 out-of-town member) of the ICPG group come by the booth and wish us a successful weekend, and it was great that they had an artist’s reception on Saturday night. Our thanks to Image City Photography Gallery !

Congratulations to our son Kevin Dean McFarland. He was selected as 1 of 6 finalists for a new community 25 foot sculpture in the Corn Hill district of Rochester NY. His style, as seem below, is minimalist, and he often depicts the human form. This is an 18 inch sculpture made from two different metals.

Our hats off to Kevin Dean.

We were delighted to be chosen as the primary artist for the newest branch office of Northwest Savings Bank here in Rochester. It was a delight to work with Laurie on this project. The bank features 18 of our prints of the Rochester and the local area.

We wish them all the greatest success in their latest business adventure.
