Materials


Signed and Numbered

All of our prints are signed and numbered in soft pencil. The graphite of soft lead pencils is stable and archival and will not cause print or mat board damage. Each print is signed on the mount board, not the mat, thus you are assured that this is an original McFarland print. My prints and signature are distinctive.

Print Paper and Ink

We use Epson archival papers and genuine archival Epson K3 pigment based inks. This combination has an archival rating of over 100 years under normal viewing conditions.



Mount Board

We only use Light Impressions Archival mount board. The Exeter Conservation Board has proven to be extremely stable and safe for important documents and artwork, and has passed demanding accelerated aging tests (i.e., P.A.T). These Standard-Cut sheets are acid-free, made from purified Wood Pulp, and have a pH of 8.0 ± .5, buffered with calcium carbonate.


Window Mat Board

We use Light Impressions archival mount board. The Westminster Bright White board is 100% cotton fiber and buffered with calcium carbonate with a pH of 8.0 ± .05. The window mat is cut 3/8 inches back from the print, so this gives it a double mat look, and allows the artist signature and series number to be visible.

Mount Tissue

Each print is hot press mounted with Buffer Mount dry mount tissue. The archival quality sheets are removable with heat, and feature an alkaline-buffered paper core, acid-free adhesive and very low bonding temperature.

Sealed (non-framed) Artwork

We use Crystal Clear Bags™ (from ClearBags.com) that are made of a superior acid-free and lignin-free material to store all of our non-framed prints. So if you decided to purchase a print and frame it yourself, you are assured that the print has been stored in a sealed, acid free environment.

Glass and Backing Boards

All of our framed artwork uses picture framing glass that we purchase from Lumiere Photographic. It is guaranteed to be of high quality, defect free and very clear.

We also use backing board supplied by Lumiere on each framed artwork thus protecting the original mounting board from damage.


Frames

Our frames are hardwood and custom made exclusively for our artwork. The design and shape of the frame is of our signature design.

Finally, we prepare each frame with bump-on's and wire hanger, so it is ready to hang when you get it.


Title Tags (all prints framed and unframed)

On the back of each framed print, or each bagged print, you will find our personal guarantee card, a print registration card and a distinctive print title card that shows the print title, location where the picture was taken and the total number of prints in this series.
